With Winterfest starting last Friday everyone felt the effects of the surge in traffic to Webkinz. I have pulled some traffic stats from Alexa, which is not a perfect service but gives some idea of traffic patterns. Note that Alex only tracks users that have their tool bar installed. You can see that Webkinz always gets busy on the weekends and this past one was no different. Couple with the start of Winterfest this made for delayed logins and other frustrations for users.
Along with the ugly delay to login into Webkinz there were other slow downs. While trying to switch between different areas in Webkinz you would get longer than normal delays. Also I received several lockups trying to enter the clubhouse. Sometimes it would clear itself, but several times I had to logout and come back in. This happened on Friday and Saturday, Sunday the performance was much better. This could just be due to less users online.

Overall Webkinz is still a very reliable site with limited delays. But with such a popular service the users base notices any changes in the service levels. I hope that Ganz continues to grow their capacity to serve the Webkinz user base and handle the large amounts of traffic that these special events bring in.
On a side note in the graph I also included the traffic for Club Penguin. It was interesting to see that they seem to have a very similar traffic pattern. They both get heavy traffic on the weekends and Club Penguin jumped up over the same time that Winterfest is running also.
